Bruising play characterized the second Region 4 tilt between the Bengals of Brighton High School and the visiting Vikings from Pleasant Grove. The Varsity Bengals won this contest 5-1.The physical play continued into the Junior Varsity match, but the score was much closer. PG gave up a hard-fought goal early in the match and then had a defensive lapse on a Brighton corner kick which was headed into the Viking goal. The final score was 2-0 for the Bengals.
Madison Giles received her first yellow card after making a hard tackle on a Bengal forward. To the spectators present, the tackle appeared clean as Maddie got all ball, but the referee thought differently. After being sent off, Maddie's Varsity coach, Lexi McMurdie gave her a "high five" and told her that she thought the tackle was clean and she wished all her players played with that much intensity.
The Vikings have three games left in the season as they are out of contention for a state tournament playoff spot. PG hosts Jordan on Tuesday, 9/29, then top-ranked Alta the next Tuesday, 10/6, and then finishes the season at Lone Peak on Thursday, 10/8.
