Team Spirit Prevails, 3-0

On the first gameday with half-decent weather, Team Spirit put together a solid performance against the second-place team from Pool B, Avalanche.

Team Spirit took the opening possession and worked down the pitch for a very good shot attempt which was expertly handled by the goalkeeper for Avalanche. It was a sign of things to come as the Girls in Gold gave the opposing 'keeper a full and thorough workout over the course of the match.

It wasn't, however, until Madison Giles crossed a pass, left-to-right, to Morgan Warner, who then battled a juggling goalkeeper to knock the ball home, that Team Spirit got on the scoreboard. The score was 1-0 at halftime and remained that way until well into the second half of play.

It was then that Madison Giles pounded a direct kick from just outside the Big Box into a swarm of players from both teams who were churning in front of the goal. The ball struck a player or two before bouncing back outside to Madison who attacked and drove the shot over the helpless reach of the goalkeeper and into the net, just grazing the belly of the crossbar on the way in.

Later in the half, Naomi Anderson scored on a nifty move which began with her back to the goal in the midst of a rough-and-tumble possession to make the final score 3-0 and giving Team Spirit three straight shutouts in postseason play--outscoring their opponents 13-0.

Team Spirit now awaits the results of the match Wednesday between Blue Crush and FC Edge. Team Spirit will play the winner of that match for the Championship on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
