It was cold. The wind never stopped blowing. Blue Crush scored on a corner kick in the first three minutes. The Girls in Gold trailed 1-0 at halftime. But they did not give up. They hustled and worked and passed and shot. Team Spirit dominated in time of possession and outshot Blue Crush 25-4, but only got on the scoreboard deep into the second half when Crush was called for hands in the penalty box. Rachel Eldredge put the penalty kick into the net to knot the score at 1-1.
Energized by finally scoring, Team Spirit mounted a withering attack, taking shot after shot which could not find the net. It looked to all who were present that the game would go into overtime. But, with about a minute left in regulation, Kielei Beard made a perfect pass to Morgan Warner, who turned on the jets in a final breakaway to the goal from midfield. She was immediately intercepted by three defenders who could barely stay with the speedy forward as she sprinted toward the goal. The TS crowd erupted as Morgan Warner, swarmed by three blue shirts, deftly passed the ball away from the awaiting goalkeeper and into the net to seal Team Spirit's victory 2-1. Moments later the crowd erupted again as the referee blew his whistle three times to signal the end of the match.
Team Spirit ends the season with a record of 19-1-1 and as Northern Utah County AA U13 Girls Champions.

Champs, eh? That's pretty sweet! I'd hate to get schooled by 13 year-old girls...especially since I'm not a soccer player.
