On a brutally hot Thursday afternoon, it was the PGHS Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity soccer teams who brought the heat in Region 4 action against American Fork High School. For the first time ever, the Vikings entered the game ranked in the high school girls' state Top 20 at number 16.This was a must-win game for the Vikings if they were to maintain their position in the top four teams in the region. The Varsity girls jumped out to a 1-0 lead and maintained that lead throughout the match, culminating with a 3-1 result.
The JV girls also lead their counterparts from AF wire-to-wire, but were nearly caught from behind by the homestanding Cavemen before time ran out. The JV Vikings held on for a 2-o victory. Madison Giles played great defense and had several good shots at the goal that just missed.
Next up for the Vikings is a visit on Tuesday to the #2 ranked team in the state, the Brighton Bengals. This will be the stiffest test for the Vikings thus far. On Thursday, the Vikings host the Beetdiggers from Jordan High School. This is a winnable game for the Vikings, but they must play their best game of the season to do so.
Stay tuned for all the exciting action of Vikings girls soccer!
