Team Spirit Pounces, Perserveres

Precisely predicting Team Spirit's present performance per past production proffers puny payoff. In other words, when considering how Team Spirit will fare in a match, it's lately been hard to predict.

Team Spirit's game with HC Storm C Jensen was an exception. TS beat Storm 5-0 in the Fall, and beat them 4-1 in the Spring. It didn't seem like Spring, however, today at Ira Allen Field in Mapleton. The skies were clear, but a bitter cold wind again blew.

Team Spirit came out hot, though, with Madison Giles leading the way in the opening minutes with a powerful shot at the goal from close range which, after being absorbed and deflected by a tremendously athletic move by Storm's goalie, was put to the back of the net by Justina Jerema. Madison led another charge moments later after aggressively maneuvering past two defenders to find herself alone with the goalkeeper. Madison put the ball up and over the diving 'keeper to make the score 2-0 for the Girls in Gold.

Justina Jerema added another goal, driving the ball from right side, 10 meters out, with authority. Rachel Eldredge made the score 4-0 with a penalty kick before the end of the first half.

As was the case last match, Team Spirit could not muster another goal in the second half, but controlled the tempo and kept the ball in their attacking third for most of the remainder of the game. HC Storm C Jensen managed a goal midway through the final half to make the score 4-1.

Team Spirit (4-1-0) is back on top of the league standings and will not play another game until April 12, when they face FC Edge (0-2-1). The only suspense will be how many players will be there for the game as it is the first day of Spring Break for the local school districts. Madison will be on her way to sunny Mexico with her family.
