Team Spirit Bounces Back

Team Spirit got back into the win column with a 3-0 victory over the then-first place team Arsenal SC Lehi Strikers.

The pitch had patches of snow which made for uneven play. When the ball hit the snow, it would often stop, making runs at the goal difficult to sustain. That notwithstanding, Team Spirit demonstrated from the opening touch that they meant business. On one of the first surges of the match, left midfielder Madison Giles made a run from the left side, blasting a crossing shot which just brushed the outside of the far post of the goal. Moments later, Giles again dribbled through defenders and fired a low shot to the left side of the goal for Team Spirit's first goal. A very short time later, Giles was again involved in the attack, making a perfect pass from the left side to Justina Jerema who was in the center of the field. Jerema expertly dribbled around the remaining defender leaving her alone with the goalkeeper. Jerema scored easily. A third goal was scored by Naomi Anderson approximately 12 minutes into the match, making the score 3-0 for the Girls in Gold.

That was all the scoring for entire match. The rest of the first half and all of the second became a defensive chess match where neither team could capitalize on advantages.

Team Spirit's (3-1-0) next match is Thursday against HC Storm C Jensen, a team that is currently underachieving at 0-2-2. Stay tuned for all the exciting action of Team Spirit soccer!

O.K. Seriously, you need to post these Team Spirit postings on the girls' website. Do you already? These are fabulous! I find myself trying to read fast to see what happens. The vernacular is just like a sports beat and now with the names in it, it seems professional. Thanks for the updates. They are cool. GO TEAM SPIRIT!
