Book signing

Hey, guess what? I went to a really cool book signing yesterday at Borders Books. A local author, Shannon Hale, was being featured. Her most recent book, Austenland, was my choice of book to read for this month. We also read her book Princess Academy a few months back. Anyway, my book club loves her and we went to see her. She spoke for a good 40 minutes first. She is hilarious! I want to be her friend. I bought Austenland and Janna (by best friend next to Jess) and I waited in line to get her to sign it. I asked her to write "You, too, can be like me." She is a cute mom of two little kids and has written about 5 books, one which received an honorary Newberry award. I'd like to write someting, too. I'd like to get going on the stories in my head. Heck, I'd like to finish the ones that are dangling out there in fiction limbo. She laughed when she saw what I wanted her to write. Instead, she wrote, "For Jen, May you find your voice and shout it to the world. Shannon Hale." Cool, eh? I hope it is cool enough and inspiring enough to kick my can in gear and help me want to start writing again. I think finding one's voice is harder than is sounds. Weigh in on that one. Much love.

that is WAY COOL!! It's great to have someone you admire, it's even better when they are as cool as you hoped. I hope her message does kick you in the rear. :)

Writing would be the coolest. Getting thoughts and feelings down on paper in a way that sounds like somthing people would like to read about would be hard but totally hip! I hope you can get back into it and really get something started. I would be at your book signing hoping to get the same thing written on my copy. Love ya

Dear Jen,

Do it! I'm glad you want to write. I remember reading a few horse n' ranch stories that you started to write. Go for it and I will always give you feedback if you'd like an editor or critic. I mean it. I love english and writing is one of my hobbies as well. One of the best excercises I love is free-writing...although it'd have to be done while the girls are napping:) An hour of good meditation and writing, mixed the refusal to erase or edit any thought written down. Anyway, Love you, and we'll see you in August.
